Your one-stop resource for accurate information on the
wild and wooly world of modern religious groups and teachers.

The American religious scene in 1955 was a very tame and predictable world. Choices of fashions, toys, preachers, and churches were limited and domesticated. Fifty years later, the tame, predictable world of 1950s fashions and toys is long gone.

The same kind of transformation has gone on in the world of religion. It is no longer tame and predictable either. Welcome to the Wild World of Religion of the 21st Century. Explore its habitats, identify some of the inhabitants, and learn about their characteristics and customs in this Field Guide.

Earth From SpaceSpecial Note on the Worldwide Church of God:

The webauthor of this site was a member of the Worldwide Church of God (WCG), under the leadership of founder Herbert W Armstrong, from 1968-1978, and a member of the WCG offshoot The Church of God, International (CGI) under the leadership of Armstrong's son Garner Ted, from 1978-1988. Although no longer affiliated with any branch of the Armstrong movement since 1988, friendships and communication have been maintained with many who have a similar background in that movement.

With the breakup of the WCG into many splinter groups since Herbert Armstrong's death in 1986, those formerly in that movement are now dispersed in a wide variety of denominational and independent Christian settings. Yet their common experience in the Armstrong movement has given some of them a particular interest in certain types of other religious movements. It is the perspective of this website that some former WCG members are thus particularly vulnerable to certain distortions of the simplicity which is in Christ which may lack appeal for the average person who was never a part of the Armstrong movement.

Thus this website highlights information on teachers and groups and ideas which are believed to have a specific appeal to a number of former WCG members, but which other "discernment ministries" may not even note at all. Some of these teachers and groups may be obscure to mainstream religious observers, but they may be quite prominent in religious circles in which former WCG members travel. Sections of this website believed to be of particular interest to such former WCG members are designated with the globe icon above.

About this Site

This site was created by Sabbatarian Webtech Services. (Webtech). We are a new ministry team whose mission is to use our technical talents to provide FREE websites to Church of God fellowships.

Please see our website for more information about us and to learn how you can request a website or volunteer to help with this ministry. We need many skills in addition to "techie geekie" skills.

Please Note: Careful effort has been made to represent as accurately as possible the actual teachings and policies and practices of the individuals and groups in this collection of information. When practical, quotations from their own publications or recordings have been provided to substantiate their teachings, and documentation from public records, including news articles, has been provided to substantiate information regarding their activities. Any corrections of fact, with supporting documentation, are welcome and will be incorporated as promptly as possible.

However, no effort has been made to provide a comprehensive overview of all of the teachings of any one person or group. That is beyond the scope of the purpose of this material. Every teacher and group has positive and negative attributes. Any reader who wishes to investigate these matters in more detail is referred to the bibliography section of this site. The bibliography includes many books and weblinks to information-pro and con-about most of the entries in this database. It also includes weblinks to the official websites of the individuals and groups whenever available.

It is not the purpose of this website to dogmatically impose opinions and evaluations on anyone--the purpose is to call attention to those areas believed to be of serious spiritual concern in the actions or words of these teachers, groups and movements. It is left to the reader to evaluate the evidence presented and come to their own conclusions

A Special Word of Thanks:

The documentation and information on this site has been compiled from a wide variety of books and websites. The work of the authors of those books and websites is absolutely invaluable, and this type of effort would be impossible without access to the output of so many gifted writers and researchers. Careful effort has been made to give credit as clearly as possible to any specific material quoted or ideas extensively adapted from any one resource. However, in a project of this size, it is possible that editorial re-working may obscure the clarity of reference citations. And in some cases, the exact source of quotations may be unavailable.

Corrections and clarifications regarding any source material are welcome, and will be promptly added to any sections which are found to be inadequately documented as to source.
